Summer ‘Sit & Sew’

During the Summer we are making the Little Cabin available for some ‘Sit & Sew’ days.  These are ideal if you fancy a day quietly sewing or you have a group of friends who would like to sew together.

They run from 10am to 3pm – we can accommodate up to 8 people, tea and coffee is provided too.  

£10 per person for the day – prebooking is required with payment.

On Tuesday, the cafe is closed so you would need to bring a packed lunch.

On Friday’s The Nook cafe is open.

Disappearing Nine Patch Cushion with Tina Finbow – Saturday 7th September 2024

This is an ideal workshop for Beginners.  You will make a Cushion Cover using the Disappearing Nine Patch technique, which has so many possibilities with layouts.  Once the front is made it will then be layered up on wadding and quilted, before making it into the cushion cover.  If you love the technique it also makes a great Table Runner if you make 3 sections to join together.  This will be discussed at the workshop.

You will need your Sewing Machine with a ¼” foot and a walking foot is ideal for machine quilting.

Westalee Rulers Sampler Taster Day with Angela Attwood – Sunday 29th September 2024 (10am – 4pm)

This is a Brand New Workshop with Angela Attwood.

Westalee Sampler Set – Sampling Day.  The Westalee Sampler Set is one of Angie’s favourite and most used template collections. 6 super-versatile shapes that work fabulously together and individually as Angie has shown in a number of her quilting patterns. (Jewel Quilt, Fiesta, Ruler Roll and Petal Power) A natural next step from the beginners Starter Day, this workshop is designed to help you get the most from the Sampler Set (6 rulers). Angie will guide you through best practice for each of the rulers and share numerous design options to explore over time. You will also learn about marking out for accuracy and how to best manage a quilt on a domestic sewing machine. With hands-on guidance and encouragement your confidence and knowledge will grow quickly, enabling you to explore and stitch out your our own designs in no time. This course is designed to give you practical guidance and improved stitch technique rather than completing a finished item. This course is NOT suitable for absolute beginners of Westalee Ruler work. Basic machine set up will not be covered. You should be comfortable fitting the Ruler Foot to your machine and able to stitch a basic straight line and curve as a minimum requirement.

PLEASE NOTE: To attend this class you will need an appropriate Ruler Foot, Spacing Gauge, the Westalee Sampler Set and an extension table for your machine.

From previous feedback – students often find it is ideal to do both workshops on the same weekend, rather than have a few weeks gap.

Once enrolled the workshop fee is non-refundable unless we are able to sell your place.

Christmas Table Runner with Tina Finbow – Saturday 5th October 2024

Brand New Workshop – come along and make an attractive Christmas Table Runner.  Ideal for your Christmas Table or for a gift.

Not suitable for Beginners.

You will need a ¼” Foot and a Walking Foot for your sewing machine for this workshop.

Bargello with Tina Finbow – Saturday 12th October 2024

Bargello is such a fun Patchwork technique, with which you can create some intriguing designs.

On this workshop you will create a small panel, which can then be used for the front of a cushion, side to a bag etc.  But you will gain the understanding of how to do Bargello and you can then take that further and even create a quilt top.

You will need a ¼” foot for your sewing machine for this course.

Seminole Patchwork Cushion with Tina Finbow – Sunday 13th October 2024

Back by Popular Demand – following a very successful workshop, I have been asked a few times about running it again, so here is the new date.

You will make a selection of different Seminole Patchwork pieces and then assemble them into a front for a cushion.  It’s a great way of trying out several of the Seminole Patchwork techniques and using them, rather than putting them into your stash.

You will need your sewing machine with ¼” foot, a cutting mat, rotary cutter and ruler, preferably a ruler with a 45 degree line marked onto it.

It is one of my favourite styles of patchwork and gives great results.  I do have to say I work you hard on the workshop to get the most out of our day.

Interleave with Tina Finbow – Saturday 19th October 2024

A fun but very intriguing technique, with which you can create all sorts of designs.  During the day you will create a design onto fabric, which can then be used as a wall hanging, a side panel to a bag, or even make it into a zipped pouch, which is what I did with one my pieces.  The photo gives an example of 2 of my pieces of work and how different they look when rotated.

Not suitable for Beginners.

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Zipped Pouch with Aitchbee – Saturday 26th October 2024

This was one of the most popular workshops last autumn, as they made ideal Christmas gifts, and so many were made by the group after the workshop.

In Aitchbee’s words:-

A fun little project for you to make for friends and family this Christmas – with integrated quilt and simple zip insertion – a choice of motifs and friendship braid which extends to the back of the pouch (simple FPP). Full instructions will be given for FPP so even if you have never tackled this useful and versatile technique before I will guide you through it. A full copy of the pattern, with lots of photographs and diagram, will be provided for each student at the end of the class so you can make lots more at home!

Beginners Quilt with Tina Finbow on Saturday 16th & Saturday 23rd November 2024 (10am – 4pm)

This course is based over 2 sessions (Saturday 16^th & Saturday 23^rd November 2024), and you will make a small lap quilt.  It is aimed at Beginners and you will learn how to accurately cut your fabric, piece the fabric with a ¼” seam, attach a border, layer up with wadding and a backing, machine quilt and then attach a continuous binding.

You will need your sewing machine with a ¼” foot and a walking foot, plus a rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat for this course. Plus your standard sewing kit.
