Here to Help! with Tina Finbow – Friday 22nd August 2025 (10am – 3pm)

Here to Help! This is a new style of Sit & Sew Day with me in the background if you need a little help with your project.  This is mainly aimed at Patchwork and Quilting, or finishing off projects that you may have started on a workshop at the cabin.  It will not include Dressmaking, as this is not an area I cover.

It is help, not a full day’s teaching.  Often you know what you are doing, but need a little help and guidance with your project.

It will need to be booked in advance of the date.

Disappearing 9 Patch with Tina Finbow

This is an ideal workshop for Beginners. You will make a Cushion Cover using the Disappearing Nine Patch technique, which has so many possibilities with layouts.  Once the front is made it will then be layered up on wadding and quilted, before making it into the cushion cover.  If you love the technique it also makes a great Table Runner if you make 3 sections to join together.  This will be discussed at the workshop.

You will need your Sewing Machine with a ¼” foot and a walking foot is ideal for machine quilting.

Valerie and John from Daisy May Quilting will be with us for the day in The Little Cabin with a huge range of Extra Wide Backing Fabrics.

It is well worth a visit to see such a choice of backing fabrics.

They will be with us from 10am to 4pm.

As Edyta Sitar has kindly given me permission to teach this quilt you will need the book Patches of Blue by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts to do this course. 

Over the 6 sessions you will make the blocks to create this Quilt Top – you will have some homework to get blocks finished off – this hinges on what you get completed in class.

Course Fee – £270 (6 sessions @ £45 each)

Booking Deposit of £120 – Balance of £150 payable on Saturday 27^th September 2025.

Manhatten Mayhem with Aitchbee

Following the popularity of this workshop, we thought it would be lovely to offer it again.

In Helen’s words:-

NEW YORK BEAUTY Table Runner

SKILL LEVEL: Suitable for experienced sewists, knowledge of Foundation Paper Piecing is an advantage but not essential

NARRATIVE: This traditional quilt block is challenging but rewarding and the final results are stunning. In the workshop I will guide you through a basic New York Beauty block and you will have the patterns for that and five other variations. Once you have the mastered the technique you will have time to make a number of blocks and we will discuss the numerous ways you can put them together. If you are bitten by the bug, I can also show you how to draft your own blocks, or you can just continue to vary the ones I provide. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, so you can complete the project at home, or want to make more! This is a machine sewing class.

Storm at Sea Porject Bag with Aitchbee

This is a Brand NEW workshop with Aitchbee – as I asked Helen if we could do a workshop with this wonderful pattern and look at what she produced. Amazing. 

In Helen’s words:-

Skill Level: Confident beginners and onwards

Finished size: approx. 14 x 14 inches

Narrative: An excellent project for students of all abilities, these bags are perfect for storing all the fabric and patterns you need to take to class for each project – never lose those patches again! Also great for children’s artwork and colouring paraphernalia or as gifts for sewing friends. Simple Foundation Paper Piecing (full tuition given) creates this traditional Storm at Sea block which can be coloured in so many different ways. By quilting the patchwork panel it is made stronger and the addition of the handle and simply inserted zip finish these bags nicely. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, to complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class.

We have the samples in the cabin.
